Bad Sites
Are you looking for a gallery of flawed sites? We're afraid you won't find one here!
UserMetrics know that building and maintaining a professional web site is an incredibly difficult task, and our approach is never confrontational. We aim to:
- impart as much knowledge to our clients as possible
- explain why certain things cause problems
- present solutions, rather than just problems
- tailor our services to the way your organisation works
Good sites
We can, however, think of some sites that offer inspirational levels of utility and usability.
- Amazon - the original customer-focused e-tailer. But is it getting a bit too complicated these days?
- Buckingham University - they came top in our recent group usability test of higher education institution web sites in the UK.
- Google News - could there be an easier way of keeping up to date on general, or topic-specific news?
- Sacramento Bee - this US local news portal is better than anything we've seen over here. Check out the side-bar that lets you change the font size and style to make reading articles easier.
- The Register - this IT new site offers legendary levels of utility (no waffle), and the clear and simple information architecture makes browsing easy.
- The new John Lewis site is fast loading and makes good use of screen space.
- UpMyStreet is probably the best example of utility on the Web.
- Belkin is the best hardware manufacturer site we've seen. We particularly like the connection wizards.
