Accessibility Consultancy and Training

Accessibility?

"Accessibility" is about ensuring that your organisation treats all customers equally, regardless of disability.  Making your Web site accessible means making sure its content and functionality are fully available to disabled users.

The legal requirements

Although the moral and economic cases for maximising your site's accessibility are clear - don't forget that there's a legal case too: inaccessible sites are illegal.  The two relevant pieces of UK legislation are:

  1. The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).  Since October 1999 your organisation has been obliged to make reasonable adjustments for disabled people, such as making changes to the way it provides its services.
  2. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act (SENDA).  For education providers, new duties came into effect in September 2002.

UserMetrics can help your organisation steer a path through the accessibility maze.

Our accessibility services

Accessibility audits

Most sites can be reviewed in two days (at a cost of £1,390 + VAT).  We will always check the scope and complexity of your site and confirm the fixed price for the audit before starting work.  Additional days, where required, are charged £795 + VAT per day.

The deliverable is a high-resolution PDF file containing a professional review of the accessibility of your site.

Turn-around for accessibility consultancy projects is normally very quick; often within two to three days.

Accessibility training

Accessibility is not a fad; it's here to stay and will need to be factored into all of your organisation's future Web projects.  For this reason, it may be more economical for your organisation to train its site developer and designers.

UserMetrics offers a half-day on-site accessibility training course for groups of up to 5 staff for £895 + VAT.
